How to Ensure Your Car’s Safety Features are Operating Correctly
If you’ve just bought a new car, or are in the market for one, you may have heard of ADAS – Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These systems are becoming increasingly common in new cars as manufacturers strive to improve safety. But what are they? How do they work? And most importantly, how can you make sure they’re working correctly and what’s ADAS Calibration?
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, or ADAS for short, are a suite of safety features that are designed to help drivers avoid accidents. These systems can include anything from automatic braking and lane keeping assistance to blind spot monitoring and even self-parking. While they’re not required by law (yet), many new cars now come standard with at least some basic ADAS features.
So how do these systems work? Most rely on sensors – cameras, radar, and/or lasers – to detect potential hazards on the road. Once a hazard is detected, the system will take appropriate action to help avoid an accident. This might mean automatically applying the brakes, or swerving the car back into its lane if it starts to drift out of position.
Of course, for these systems to work correctly, they need to be properly calibrated. They are calibrated at the factory when the car is first built, but over time they can become out of alignment. This can happen for a number of reasons – changes in tire size or wheel position, damage to the sensors, etc. If your ADAS system is not properly calibrated, it may not be able to detect hazards correctly, or may not take appropriate action to avoid an accident.
So how can you make sure your ADAS system is properly calibrated? The best way is to take your car to an authorized dealership or service center and have them perform a calibration. This process usually takes less than an hour and doesn’t require any special equipment. Once it’s done, your ADAS system should be back up and running correctly.
